Book Week Scotland 2015

Book Week Scotland 2015!

We celebrated books and reading all week as part of the national Book Week Scotland’s week-long festival.
· Lesley Glaister, award winning writer, was in school on the Monday. Lesley is a novelist, playwright and a teacher of writing and she worked with a Higher English class. Lesley also met the staff at lunchtime.
· All week, we had a Brilliant Book Fair in the library, which provided us with an opportunity to buy fantastic books.
· S1s participated in the Design a Bookmark Competition
· S2s grilled each other in book interviews, all in their English Library periods.
· Staff entered into the spirit of BWS and photos of them Caught Reading in Unusual Places were on display around the school.
· An exciting event took place on the Thursday, the Library Hunger Games and Scribbles trip where all were looking forward to seeing Mockingjay part 2.
· The Big Battle of The Books Quiz was on the Friday, led by House Leaders, five house teams and a staff team battled it out for points and prizes in the library at lunchtime. There were lots of tartan, music and shortbread, all compered by Mr McWhirter in his tartan bunnet.
· We were in for a huge celebration all week, of the written word, with something for everyone to enjoy.

S1 Bookmarks

The S1 Design a Bookmark Competition  was judged by Mrs Grant and she said that it was incredibly difficult to choose winners from so many brilliant book marks. However, winners were finally chosen and these are:

First: Shannon Flanagan 1I6

Second: Natasha Morrison 1M7

Third: Mikey Richards 1I7

Congratulations to all three, who win the prizes. These winning bookmarks are on display in the library.

Inter-House Book Quiz

Our annual Inter-House Book Quiz on 27 November was the culmination of our Book Week Scotland event.

We enjoyed a highly entertaining and hard-fought competition at lunchtime in the library. Tunnocks tea cakes and shortbread were demolished, as teams battled it out.

The winning house, for the second year in a row, was Gordon, with its team Flash Gordons 2.0. Congratulations to Alasdair Robinson, Kirsty MacLean, Alex Hawco, Urquhart Dyce and Patrick Strachan.

Second was the staff team The Book Bandits and third was Seafield House, with its team Seafield Slitherfied.

Well done to all who participated and to all who supported the quiz.

Special thanks to Mr McWhirter, our compere and to our scorers, Cara MacKenzie, Ellie Mackenzie, Charlotte Durrant and Matthew Hamilton.

S2 Book Interviews

During BWS, two pupils at a time interviewed each other about their book choices and reading in front of the class and answered questions at the end. Some great questions were asked, by some very good interviewers.

These interviews helped with choosing books and recommended books were all requested and borrowed. S2 have been buzzing abut books since BWS!
