Book Week Scotland – Sara Sheridan visit

On Monday 21 November, we welcomed Sara Sheridan to the school library, to work with S4 girls and this was a great session, aimed at encouraging confidence though literacy. Our aim now is to set up an Elgin Academy lunchtime writing and reading group called Girls Aloud. The girls enjoyed meeting Sara and chatting to her and especially enjoyed sampling some of Sara’s lovely feminist perfume! Sara worked with bespoke perfumer Sarah McCartney to create the fragrance which is based on the lives of Jacobite women. This was a great session and the library smelled utterly lovely as a result of the gorgeous perfume.

Sara Sheridan is an Edinburgh-based novelist who writes crime noir mysteries set in 1950s Brighton and historical novels based on the real-life stories of late Georgian and early Victorian explorers. Sara is also an active campaigner, fascinated by women’s issues and in 2015, Sara was named one of the Saltire Society’s 365 most influential Scottish women, past and present.
