S1 - Research skills.

Wow! The library has been busy this term with classes.

Our library has been described as “the dynamic, diverse and dizzyingly active centre of the school” and it has indeed been the case so far this term.

The Advanced Higher French class has read the novel No and Me by Delphine de Vigan, which they have to write about in French and are now discussing, in English, in the library each week.

The Advanced Higher Biology class has heard all about plagiarism and bibliographic and referencing skills, to help with dissertation planning and were part of the library trip to Aberdeen University Library soon, with the other AH students.

S1 pupils have recently completed a research task in the library, during their English classes, and the one of the fastest groups to finish was the snowboarder researchers. S1 had their first book talk all about action & adventure.

The S2 library book talk programme, in English classes, began with the books of Malorie Blackman, moving on to the books of Marcus Sedgwick and borrowing of their books has been enthusiastic by the S2s.

Some S3 pupils have started to shadow The Scottish Children’s Book Awards 2016 and read the shortlist and participate in a variety of book-based activities.

Classes Using The Library - Rainbow Readers

Our S1 pupils have not only been enjoying their library books, but have been enjoying writing about them too. Our Rainbow Reading Challenge is a collaborative Library and English department project, which focuses on pupils’ personalisation and choice in reading. S1 pupils have taken up the challenge eagerly and we congratulate our first four to have completed challenges: Jamie Rankin, Louis Russell, Anthony Cameron and Zuzannah Strehlau. They  are now well on their way to becoming star readers.
