Grampian Children’s Book Award Ceremony

Novelties Book Club pupils were very excited about their big road trip to Aberdeen for The Grampian Children’s Book Awards 2017 on Wednesday 10 May. Mrs Forster drove👍and we collected pupils from Gordonstoun School and Speyside High School too.

There was great excitement as the authors came on stage and were introduced. Each author spoke and talked about their books.

We enjoyed a lively talk from Alan Gibbons, who said: “Alan Gibbons is the only teacher who disrupts his own lessons”! Lisa Williamson said of The Art of Being Normal: “a book for anyone who has ever felt that they don’t fit in”.

After the talks from the authors, it was time for questions from the pupils.  There were gasps of astonishment from the audience. Authors revealed they receive only 70p from sale of a book costing £7.99!  Jemma asked the authors how old they were when they started writing. There were lots of interesting answers.

Next was the awarding of prizes for the competitions and…..drum roll….

Verena won second prize for her poster of Monster and was presented with her prize on stage by Alan Gibbons. Chloe came third in Moray.

Really well done girls!

The winner of The Grampian Children’s Book Award 2017:

One by Sarah Crossan! Congratulations to her.

Book signing and  Charlotte and Chloe really enjoyed meeting Lisa Williamson  and it was great to have their copies of The Art of Being Normal signed.

Then home time, via Aberlour and the end of a very good, booky, happy day. A huge thank you to Mrs Forster for driving us all.
