S1 and S2 Book Talks November and December 2016

S1 classes will be enjoying the theme Comedy during December and will focus on the books Waiting for Gonzo by Dave Cousins, Time Travelling with My Hamster by Ross Welford, The World of Norm by Jonathan Meres and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging by Louise Rennison. Perhaps not all of Undead by Kirsty McKay book is laugh-out-loud, but this book is a great read and very funny too.

The S2 programme

December‘s talk was Award Winners of this year and all of the books featured have been very popular with pupils and have resulted in lots of requests for copies. Particularly popular is The Carnegie Medal-winning One by Sarah Crossan. The other books were Costa Award winner The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge, Grampian Children’s Book Award winner Smart by Kim Slater and The Scottish Children’s Book Award winner The Piper by Danny Weston.

The S2 programme focuses on authors, but in November, this changed and the talk featured several different authors, all on the theme of World War One. Pupils heard about Remembrance, by Scottish writer Theresa Breslin, as well as the books Eleven Eleven by Paul Dowswell and Five Children on the Western Front by Kate Saunders. The talk also included images and film clips and pupils were lively contributors to the discussions in the library.
