S6 students this session have been paired with younger pupils in S1, S2 and S3, with the aim of encouraging reading fluency and comprehension. This sharing of books and reading took place in the library, making good use of its resources, as well as the beanbags!
All pupils have enjoyed their weekly session with their reading partners and forged firm friendships during the year. The programme has led to increased reading abilities and enjoyment of reading by the younger pupils, as well as a growth in confidence. They have learned a lot from their S6 partners and have been encouraged positively in lots of ways by them.
Staff appreciated the dedication and enthusiasm shown by this year’s cohort of S6 paired readers, who have been very committed to ensuring the success of this reading initiative.
The new S6 will have the opportunity to hear more about its benefits and how they can be part of the Paired Reading Programme, from Mrs Grant and Mrs Toonen, during their induction days in June.
A party was organised in the library recently for the S6 paired reading pupils, with books being devoured – literally! Thanks to Mrs Kerrie Martin in SFL for baking amazing book cupcakes.
