Scottish Teenage Book Prize Shortlisted Author – Akemi Dawn Bowman – 19 December 2019

It was a very early start on the morning of Thursday 19 December with cake for our Scottish Teenage Book Prize pupils and our VIP – a chocolate vegan mirror cake shining on a dark and cold morning.

Author Akemi Dawn Bowman visited us!

From Las Vegas to Scotland and Elgin and meant excitements all round.

Beanbags were set up too for an informal session with Akemi Dawn Bowman.

Millie in the Scottish Teenage Book Prize group created these incredible drawings for our visitor. Based on scenes in the book Starfish.

This was a wonderful Q&A and informal chat session with Akemi Dawn Bowman and our pupils. All about Starfish and about Akemi’s new books too.

Kelly & Ally’s questions were voted the best and they received a copy each of Summer Bird Blue. There was a copy for the library too .

It was Thumbs Up from Akemi for the vegan chocolate mirror cake and there were lots of firsts on this morning for us. It was so lovely to meet Akemi, who stayed on after the session for more chat and cups of tea.

The pupils loved the cake, Mrs Stewart in the Modern Languages department loved the cake and our VIP Akemi Dawn Bowman loved the cake. Books & cake = perfect combination!

This was a fantastic morning with our Scottish Teenage Book Prize pupils and Akemi Dawn Bowman, one of the shortlisted authors. Lots learned and lots to discuss.

A perfect second last day of term .
