Alan Bissett -September 2013

Novelist, Performer & Playwright Alan Bissett

We welcomed Alan Bissett to school on Monday 16 September, when he spoke to S5 and S6 pupils about his books, as well as helping them to develop their writing skills. Alan is the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Writer of the Year 2011 and his novels are narrated in a mixture of colloquial Scots, English and pop-culture references, and are often read and enjoyed by teenagers.

Everyone really enjoyed Alan’s visit:

“Really enjoyable and I felt that it was valuable and interesting”

Callum Gaffney

“I felt that the visit from Alan Bissett was informative and interesting. It was a good insight into short story writing and the techniques that were given. I would hope to use these the next time we are doing short stories. The only bad point was that I would have liked the session to have been longer.” Hamish Gillies.

“It was fun and a different thing to do; and it was engaging and I felt involved”. Kate McIntosh.

“Really enjoyed it. Very useful ideas and just wished it was longer, as he was a really interesting person.” Cameron Donegan.

“The presentation from the author was very useful. He explained a lot of techniques for imaginative writing in an informative and amusing way. It really helped me to change the way I look at my writing and so will help me greatly to write a piece for my folio”. Hayley Nicol.
