Children of Icarus – Scottish Teenage Book Prize ’18

Children of Icarus – Scottish Teenage Book Prize – session 1 November

So much came out of the lively discussion of Children of Icarus with the girls in our Scottish Teenage Book Prize session. One thing was clear and that it is: the author Caighlan Smith “gets teenagers”.

Annie said that, if she was the main character, she would have written a letter to the Icarii, explaining why she took on Clara’s identity. The girls said “monsters, murder & madness” and it is ok if sometimes you are afraid/don’t know what to do.

The girls picked a passage in Children of Icarus as one that was v significant. The realisation for everyone that this was not the expected Utopia.
